The Wildness Quest

A monthly Nature challenge for adults that will help you get offline, go outside, and connect with and learn about the amazing wild world around you.

Life's busy! We often don't make time for the things that bring us the most joy in life, like spending time connecting with Nature.

Make getting offline and going outside a priority again.

We give you permission (if you haven't already given it to yourself) to explore more, learn about the natural world, have fun, meet new people, have more real-life experiences, connect with wildness, and be healthier (physically and mentally)!

Come on an adventure with us!

What is The Wildness Quest?

It's a monthly challenge that you can do alone, with friends and family or with our online community of wild ones. It's a fun way to get motivated to go outside and connect with the natural world.

Each month you'll receive a new "map" to experience.

Think scavenger hunt + rewilding + naturalist learning + photography + The Wander Society + geocaching...

Why it's a good idea to join us for the monthly Quest:

  • Motivation to get outside and explore more
  • New adventures and new stories to tell
  • Something beyond your everyday routine
  • Experience Nature in a new and different way
  • Be part of a like-minded community
  • More time offline and outside
  • Learn how to slow down and enjoy your surroundings
  • Do good - protect and clean up wild areas near you
  • Build a stronger connection to the natural world
  • Have fun!
  • Be able to identify your local flora and fauna
  • A way to have adventures with family and friends

We love seeing what Questers are creating and experiencing in TWQ!

Caitlyn created this journal entry for her Quest (and a cool custom stamp for her badge):

Molly shared her journal for the "Do Good" section:

Stu wrote: "Love finding patches of wild green space in the middle of cities. For example, here's West Port Garden, opened in 1910 for children in the neighbouring Edinburgh Slums to experience nature. The plot is about the same size as a house, surrounded on all sides by tall buildings. It's sometimes visited by a fox. 🦊"

Here's what people are saying about the Quest:

"I've decided my life is best lived when I'm covered in mud, with unbrushed hair and dirt under my fingernails, and when I wake up to the susurration of trees rather than a blaring phone. Plus, I'll do anything for points. This seems to be the best of both of those things."

- Elizabeth, Washington

"Can I just say how much I love this group and I feel so connected to everyone, I hope some day we can meet and exchange stories πŸ˜ƒ"

- Tammy, Virginia

"This one has been my new personal quest for every adventure we go on! Here is some of the colors we have found since starting this quest! (This has been so much fun!!)"

- Caitlyn, Maine

"I'm really liking it. The quest has really gotten me to go outside more and explore the activities."

- Michael, Washington DC

"I'm excited for the challenge to slow down and GET OUTSIDE! Plus I love a good game..."

- Anna, Colorado

"I've always loved being in the outdoors, with family and friends or on my own. I'm excited that my son has shown the same interests. I'm looking forward to discovering more from my experiences in nature, to share with him."

- Lisa, Ontario

β€œLife is either a daring adventure
or nothing at all.”

Helen Keller

The goal is simple:

Go out into your local ecosystem, deepen your awareness, experience with all your senses, find natural items, and document it in your own way.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the Quest start and finish?
The Quest starts on the first day of every month and ends on the last day. Your membership subscription will start on the day that you sign up and will be billed every month on that day until you cancel your subscription.
Is the Quest location based?
No, you can do the Quest anywhere! (well maybe not at the poles). We have tried very hard to make the Finds and Experiences sections of the map universal. Sometimes there will be things that you might not be able to experience or find in your area, and that's okay. You might not have access to wild water, or a forest, or a type of plant, but for the most part, we are able to make alternate suggestions for you.
I'm not into the competitive part of collecting points. Do I have to participate in that?
That's totally okay! We have a lot of people doing the Quest for themselves and not for points. We have a points system in place because it can add that much more motivation to get you outside and exploring that natural world. So if you aren't into the points, the Quest is still something fun you can do for yourself.
What if I'm starting after the first of the month?
That's totally okay, you're still able to do the Quest at your own pace. You'll receive access to the month's quest map and all the previous month's maps too, if you'd like a few extra suggestions. Many of the Questers get more into the Quest closer to the end of the month when the points deadline draws closer. :)
